Abstract

The diaries of Ivo Ducháček record the beginnings of the Czechoslovak foreign resistance in France in 1939 and, above all, life in wartime London in 1940-1945. In addition to observations from the everyday life of Czechoslovak exile circles, they also contain records from numerous working meetings.

These may be of value inter alia because such more or less formal consultations, ad hoc meetings and conversations that took place at hotels, clubs, restaurants, various social events and receptions were otherwise rarely put down on paper. They provide an image of the level of knowledge at the time, as well as the information influences that might have had a bearing on the formulation of policy in those days.
