Abstract

The diabetic foot together with loss of vision based on diabetic retinopathy and chronic renal failure due to diabetic nephropathy belong to the most serious late diabetic complications. The diabetic foot influences patient psychiatric status and has an overlap even to social and economic domains due to changes of patient social positions, their isolation, increased invalidisation and mainly to higher morbidity and mortality.

The incidence of the diabetic foot slightly increases year by year along with elevating number of diabetic patients. Therefore it's necessary to pursue carefully not only to diagnosis of the diabetic foot but also to risk factors that contribute to this disease.

The diabetic foot therapy has to be always complex and performed by a wide range of specialists. The diabetologist should play a key role in coordination of this treatment.
