Abstract

The book focuses on the civil administration of the government-in-exile and examines the presentation of the Czechoslovak state in exile in this environment. It looks not only at the everyday life of politicians and civil servants, but also at the role of ceremony and political marketing in creating the Czechoslovak brand.

Exile governments during the Second World War invested heavily in their credibility, and the power environment around Edvard Beneš also placed emphasis on issues of representativeness. This thesis traces the Czechoslovak exile "ruling court" as a grand statesmanlike performance.

It is interested in the stage with its sets, props, and costumes, and through this perspective it also looks behind the scenes of the staged.
