The Development of Religion Law in the United States of America Divided into Periods from the 17th Century to the Present Day

Abstract
This article describes seven periods in the history of religion law in what is now the United States of America from the 17 th century to the present day. It begins with the arrival of the Pilgrim Fathers, continues with developments in the American colonies and makes reference to the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom and the drafting of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
It discusses some U.S. Supreme Court decisions on religious freedom and concludes by looking at certain aspects of the development of public and Catholic education.
