Who owns the city? The public space between the state, the market and contemporary art

Publication

Abstract

Since the 1960s, the notion of public space has become important for political science, sociology, anthropology, law, philosophy, gender, cultural and media studies, and the visual arts. Habermas's Structural Transformation of the Public has been a major contributor, the suggestions of which will be updated for contemporary society.

How do the state and the market influence public space? Contemporary artists and artists and their strategies to approach public space critically and to give back to the diverse communities and people who live in it will also play an important role. Lecture by Milan Kreuzzieger with discussion at the Faculty of Education of Charles University on 25 April 2023.
