Abstract

Multisensory stimulation in the Snoezelen room provides sensory stimulation, relaxation and helps clients to develop specific areas. The aim of the text is to describe the possibilities of using the Snoezelen room for children with autistic disorder in a special kindergarten.

The introductory part theoretically defines the concept of multisensory stimulation and describes the practical use of the Snoezelen room. A qualitative investigation was carried out by means of a case study in two selected special kindergartens.

These kindergartens use therapy for children with autism spectrum disorder in the Snoezelen room. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with special educators, observation and content analysis of special education school documentation.

Open coding, categorization and comparative analysis were chosen for the analytical procedures. The findings of the research show that special educators register a calming down, reduction of aggression, development of sensory integration and strengthening of social adaptation through emotional experiences in children with autism spectrum disorder after receiving therapy in the Snoezelen room.
