Abstract
Adipose tissue is a complex organ with various functions. It acts as an energy reservoir, thermal insulator and shock absorber and has also endocrine functions.
In recent years, its regenerative and antiinflam-matory potential has been discovered. Responsible for these roles are different types of progenitor, stem and mature cells, other than adipocytes, which are located in the adipose tissue and are collectively known as stromal vascular fraction.
In reticular dermis, adipose cells surround hair follicles and closely regulate hair cycle. The intradermal adipocyte progenitor cells are metabolically active and secrete several signaling molecules, which are responsible for the induction of anagen phase and new hair growth.
In this review, we discuss the efficacy of adipose tissue derived-stem cellsin the management of alopeciain clinical trials.
