Abstrakt
The importance of learning mathematics at the elementary level can hardly be disputed; thus, the quality of concept development in the early years of schooling is paramount. The lecture will focus on selected key ideas in school mathematics (e.g., word problem solving, measurement in geometry, linear equations) and show how a teaching approach at the elementary school can hinder or promote pupils' good understanding when these ideas are introduced on a more abstract level at the lower secondary school.
