St. Ludmila in the 19th and Early 20th Century Art

Abstract

The article deals with the visual culture of the iconography of St. Ludmila in the nineteenth century in Bohemia, as a part of a scientific collective monograph, published at the opportunity of 1110th death of the bohemian saint.

It concentrates at the ways of depiction of St. Ludmila's life a and martyr's death within the period when the topic of the national saints concenrdend a broad spectrum of artistic fields - i. e. graphic arts and drawing, illustration, painting and architectural decor.

At the same time this topic was tightly connectet with the strengthening national movement of the period.
