Abstract
The paper sheds light on the state of French roads in the first half of the 18th century and the approach of the governing officials to the construction of new and the repair of existing roads. The growing necessity of a broad road network caused the adoption of several important measures regarding the construction of paved roads which progressed in the 1730s and 1740s.
With the appointment of Daniel Charles-Trudaine, roads were drawn on maps that constituted, for the central government, an important means of strengthening power and controlling key areas of the state from a military, economic and administrative point of view
