The paper deals with the Latin poem Protreptikon ad scholam Neudorfinam from 1616, celebrating the founding of a Latin school in Nové Sedlo nad Bílinou, by the Czech humanist and professor at Charles University Jan Campanus Vodňanský. It presents both the cultural-historical context of the Czech Lands during the Pre-White Mountain age when the poem was written, and the tradition of the specific genre of protrepticon which Campanus's text belongs to.
Special attention is paid to the relationship between the poet and his patron, the Czech nobleman and founder of the Nové Sedlo school Bohuslavof Michalovice. The paper highlights that Campanus conceived his work as a "poetic gift" meant as a reward for his patron's generosity, and demonstrates in concrete examples by what poetic means he celebrated Bohuslav's family, his education and the beauty of his estate.
The paper also includes an edition of the Campanus's poem.
