2023

Abstract

The issue of education of gifted pupils has not been addressed for a long time in the Czech republic, because attention is focused on pupils with other special educational needs. The aim of this text presents the teaching methods and organizational forms used by teachers to work with gifted pupils at the first level of primary schools.

We have chosen a qualitative approach with case study design (five primary schools). The research sample consisted of six first grade teachers.

Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews and content analysis of available school data. The open coding method was chosen for the analytical investigation.

The data was contrasted using the contrasting technique. Six categories emerged and were interpreted.

The results of the investigation show gaps in the cooperation between schools and institutions that support the education and development of gifted pupils. Aspects of teachers' preparation and work with gifted pupils were positively evaluated, not only in terms of education but also in terms of socio-emotional development.
