Modern Audio Oral Course

Publication

Abstract

The paper briefly outlined the methodological background of the development of audio-oral courses, i.e. the basic features of the audio-lingual method with its roots in the USA and the SGAV method with its origins in France, pointing out their common features and some differences. He then summarized the diverse reasons for the emergence of audio-oral courses, ranging from the necessity due to the linguistically strongly heterogeneous classes of students of Czech as a foreign language to the reasons stemming from the current knowledge of brain functioning, memory and learning, which give rise to some features of the modern audio-oral course.

It does not have the ambition to lead the student to a full knowledge of the language, but to create a solid foundation in the field of pronunciation, basic phrases, orientation in the key vocabulary. Another element is the involvement of online learning platforms and applications based on the correspondence of image and sound, allowing both visualization in the classroom and independent home preparation.

Thus, the conference participants learned why and how to successfully integrate audio-oral courses into the classroom nowadays.
