Abstrakt
To defend the Christians persecuted for their refusal to worship the Emperor, Tertullian, in his Apologetics turns the arguments developed by the Roman authorities reverse and accuses them of impiety because they want to force hearts by their unjust power and domination. In a society where religion has a directly political meaning, Tertullian thus lays the foundations of the principle of religious freedom.
