Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2023

Abstract

Melanoma is the most serious skin malignancy, it is the seventh most common malignant tumor in the Czech Republic, and its incidence is still increasing. In the nineties of the 20th century, the incidence in the Czech Republic exceeded 1,000 cases per year, today these values are more than double.

About 350-400 patients die of melanoma in our country every year. The previously hopeless situation of patients with more advanced disease has begun to change for the better in the last 10 years, mainly thanks to the advent of targeted and biological treatment, including immunotherapy.

The book is based on the current recommended procedure (updated at the beginning of 2023) and contains precise recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of this malignancy. It is intended primarily for oncologists and dermatologists, it will also be useful for all medical professions that can participate in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma.
