Abstract

Giovanni Francesco Barbieri known as Guercino (Šilhavec) was self-taught and belonged to the important followers of Ludovico Carracci, Caravaggio and Reni. For the Basilique of St.

Peter in the Vatican painted the giant altarpiece The Burial of Saint Petronilla. After Reni's death in 1642, he moved his residence to Bologna, where he became a leading painter and left countless drawings, caricatures, frescoes (Aurora), paintings on canvas and wood and copper plates.
