Abstract

The chapter Reflexe živočišné výroby Argentiny v materiálech českých cestovatelů a emigrantů na počátku 20. století. (Reflection of the Argentinian animal husbandry in the texts of Czech travellers and migrants at the beginning of the 20th century). In this period, Argentina was famous for its products like meat, hides, or wool that came from large farms called estancias and were further processed in the factories or abattoirs called frigoríficos.

It was no coincidence that animal husbandry also attracted the attention of Czech visitors to South America. This study would like to present some of these personalities and their thoughts on this world-renown industry.

It qualitatively analyses the works of Zdeněk Fafl, Vojtěch Vaníček, and Ferdinand Klindera as they were economic experts sent to Argentina by the Austrian government to examine export and import opportunities for the Habsburg monarchy. The principal aim is to ascertain how they characterized Argentinian animal husbandry and what fascinated them about it.

Similarly, we would analyse their opinion on the role of Argentinian products in the Austrian market.
