The Problem of Curriculum Reduction from the Point of View of Czech Language Didactics and Its Historical Experience

Abstract

The article is motivated by the current need to theoretically explain one of the crucial requirements of the present time, the requirement to substantially reduce the whole amount of curriculum and the requirement to redefine the core and the developing curriculum. Based on historical analysis of Czech language education, it tries to contribute to the illustration of general contexts and causes of these chronically recurrent questions.

It documents that reductions themselves had only a minimum impact on language education and it suggests being careful with the current curricular reform.
