The conference Brendan Behan at 100: Legacy and New Directions took place on 23-24 June 2023. Marking the centenary of the birth of the Irish author, playwright, and rebel, the conference intended to reconsider his rich literary legacy.
It offered two days of panels focusing on different aspects of Behan's work, as well as keynote sessions by Prof. John Brannigan (University College Dublin) and Dr Deirdre McMahon, who created a documentary for RTÉ Radio 1.
The conference was opened by Her Excellency Cliona Manahan, Irish Ambassador to the Czech Republic, and featured a special evening of music at Kavárna Liberál, including some songs from the Behan family repertoire, performed by the Czech band Conamara Chaos with special guests David Livingstone, Matthew Sweney and Jáchym Hájek.
