Abstract

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease defined by a temporary or permanent decrease in the number of blood platelets and a subsequent increased risk of bleeding. Thrombocytopenia is caused by the destruction of platelets in the organs of the monocyto-macrophage system, mostly in the spleen, and the relatively insufficient formation of platelets in the bone marrow.
