COVID-19 and cognitive functions

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2023

Abstract

COVID-19 affects not only somatic, but also psychological functions of a person. Cognitive disorder appears to be one of the most striking, although it is very inconsistent and there is a considerable interindividual variability in the cognitive impairment of different patients.

The symptoms of cognitive disorder and fatigue syndrome are strongly intertwined with each other. The condition is often described as "brain fog".

In most cases, it has a reversible character of a type of a mild disorder of cognitive functions. The causes are discussed - primarily inflammation, but also factors of a psychosocial nature.
