Modified Arginine hydrochloride solution

Publication

Abstract

It is a special infusion solution that is a combination of an inorganic ion and an organic cation that undergoes metabolism in the human body. This leads to acidification of the internal environment, including serious clinical situations such as hypochloremic alkalosis.

This condition is common in critical conditions in patients with massive vomiting, in specific situations of liver failure (decompensation of liver cirrhosis), in liver failure after severe intoxication with hepatotoxic substances, and in alkalosis due to extreme conditions during the application of extracorporeal circulation. In this set-up, at the applied volume and concentration of arginine chloride, the solution is not commercially available and is missing in the indicated situations.
