This chapter looks at the twentieth-century history of Europe from the perspective of centre-periphery relations, while employing a multi-scalar approach. It begins with discussion of Europe on the global scale of core-periphery imaginaries, then proceeds with Europe as caught in Cold War macro-divisions, and subsequently discusses the centre-periphery relations, imaginations, and disparities at intra-European and micro-regional level.

The chapter is part of the innovative textbook that aims to address formative processes of European history in transnational and multiperspective way.
