Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Arterial hypertension is one of the ear-liest risk factors of atherosclerosis , early intervention significantly reduces cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

We have to tailor the treatment to individual patients according to their hypertension subclass and their cardiovascular and metabolic risk profile. The fixed combination has a number of advantages, from better and faster achievement of blood pressure target values, through fewer side effects to improved adherence to treatment.

The combination of a beta-blocker (bisoprolol) and an ACE inhibitor (perindopril) has complementary effects on the sympathetic nervous system and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis. The combination of these drugs effectively reduces blood pressure and heart rate, which improves the car-diovascular prognosis of selected patients.

The article is devoted to the indications of these drugs in patients both in the treatment of uncomplicated hypertension and in secondary prevention in patients with ischemic heart disease. The emphasis is placed especially on the position of beta-blockers.
