Abstract

This article approaches the question of homelessness in the Czech Republic, focusing specifically on homeless people with dogs who together form an alternative family unit. However, this unit is not respected in its entirety by a whole series of institution which tend to divide it into two separate components - a homeless person and a dog.

This consequently reflects into the services being inadequate, unaddressable and unable to fulfil the potential of support and help which the group in discussion needs. The objective of this article is to present comprehensively viewed information and specifics relating to the family unit consisting of homeless people with dogs, the introduction of the current practice when working with this group in the Czech Republic and the subsequent focus on the transformation of the view on this independent unit, which could lead to changing the approach of the individuals in question, but also on a national level.

The article is based on questionnaires conducted within a master's thesis and presents the results of the research conducted within the master's thesis.
