Wild indigo (Tephrosia purpurea) is a perennial herb of the legume family (Fabaceae) that grows throughout Southeastern Asia and is a part of traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine where it is an important component of many herbal preparations. It is traditionally used to heal wounds, but its application in medicine is very wide.
Modern research methods have demonstrated the effectiveness of the drug in many historical indications, but also suggest possible use as a treatment for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
