According to the latest statistical data to date, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the Czech Republic, accounting for 36.5% of deaths in men and 43.1% of deaths in women. According to data from the World Health Organization and the European Society of Cardiology, the Czech Republic is one of the countries with a high mortality rate from CVD.
The main risk factors for CVD include dyslipidemia, LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) has been identified as a major determinant of the risk for developing atherosclerosis. The aim of this analysis of the Czech post-MONICA study was to determine the 95th percentile values for LDL-C in a representative sample of the Czech population examined in 2015-2018.
The 95th percentile values of LDL-C by age and sex are required to determine the probability of FH according to the Dutch Lipid Network Criteria.
