The first step towards a philosophy that deals with the phenomenon of the new in a specific way is to work out the contents of the ancient Greek words νέος and καινός. The parallels as well as the differences between νέος and καινός provide an initial overview of how to address the new.
Building on this, the article gives a brief overview of the philosophical work on the phenomenon of the new. In the context of the conference in question, phenomenological aspects in particular are discussed.
In their association, phenomenology and dialectics develop a comprehensive philosopheme for dealing with the new, which is referred to in a few examples in the present article. The comprehensive philosophical treatment of the phenomenon of the new is called kainology.
