Abstract

This chapter looks at how the Europeans understood the rest of the world and themselves in the long nineteenth century, focusing in particular on the variated and changing images that the Europeans made about the United States, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The chapter is part of the innovative textbook that aims to address formative processes of European history in transnational and multiperspective way.
