The monograph on the history of medicine in the Czech Lands sums up the current knowledge about the demographic changes, helthcare systems, medical professions, medical institutions medical education and sciences from prehistoric times to present. It is based on nearly two decades of research in the field of medical history and related disciplines.
The earliest period of history in this volume is discussed from a paleopathological perspective. Most of the following chapters based on both original sources and secondary literature are roughly organized using a uniform scheme starting with a brief exposition of the general historical contextt, followed by a summary of European medicine in the period.
The next parts discuss what we know about the particular topics related to the history of medicine and healthcare in Bohemia and Moravia. The book was written by a group of eight historians, a sociologist, and three physicians and published as part of well-established series History of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown.
