Abstract

Electrical current activated sintering is generally faster and requires lower temperatures than conventional sintering. This makes sintering significantly less energy intensive, especially for high temperature materials.

Electrical current activated sintering methods are also useful for preparing materials which have unusual compositions or specific microstructural features. In this review, we address various methods of electric field assisted sintering and the materials to which they are applicable.
