The year 2022 was the stage for many strikes and protests in Turkey as we witnessed a massive outbreak of contentious politics in a variety of forms. The grievances of these moments of contentions vary, whether they might be caused by worsening economic conditions, the effects of Covid, or others.

This paper will aim to analyze the discourse of these strikes and protests in order to uncover the differences between the reality of crises and their perception by the participants of these contentious movements. The slogans and statements of the workers and protesters will act as the main source for discourse analysis, to see which grievance or 'crisis' was highlighted in different strikes and protests.

The differences between the discourse or emphasized grievance in each strike and protest will make it possible to come up with explanations for such divergences. In order to do so, the number of protests and strikes will be identified with the help of data gathered from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Dataset Project (ACLED).

This will be followed by the individual discourse analysis of each protest and strike through the reading of news reports and statements of the protesters and workers. The combination of quantitative and qualitative data will ensure that the article presents a complete picture of the subject which can contribute to our understanding of 'crisis' and how it shapes contentious politics.
