Abstract

The publication of an extensive collection of works by the Czech poet, translator and scholar Josef Lederer (1917-1985), a member of the generation of Jiří Orten and Ivan Blatný. Lederer lived in exile in London from 1939, where he produced an extensive but lesser-known work in the Czech environment.

The volume contains his major poems, early poems and prose, essays and articles on English (especially John Donne) and Czech literature, satirical and cultural programmes written for radio, translations, diaries and letters. The work is accompanied by an extensive commentary, a calendar, bibliography and an afterword.
