Abstract
Seasonal and weekly fluctuations in alcohol use are a hitherto unanalysed aspect of epidemiological research on alcohol use in the Czech adult population. The aim of this study is to offer a descriptive and analytical perspective on seasonal and weekly patterns of alcohol use in the Czech adult population.
The research was carried out in a representative sample of 809 persons as part of an online survey within the Czech National Panel setting. The monitored variables include alcohol use, seasonal use and alcohol use within days of the week.
The results show that consumption is most frequent on Fridays and Saturdays in terms of days of the week, except only of people in retirement age, who use alcohol more evenly throughout the week. In terms of months of the year, the highest consumption is reported in summer (June, July, August) and in December.
Respondents with higher AUDIT questionnaire scores use alcohol more in the summer months than in December. The results of the survey may contribute to better timing of prevention and clinical activities.
