Abstract

Problem-posing is one of the topics that have long received attention in mathematics education. The presented classroom research paper describes an experiment which tested the ability of elementary school pupils to create their questions for a given task.

The experiment was carried out in ten classes of primary schools in Prague. In the experiment, pupils were confronted with a realistic situation describing a menu in a pizzeria and asked to construct two mathematical problems.

In the paper, we present an analysis of the pupils' solutions based on the mathematical methods that were needed to solve the constructed problems.
