Specifics of the Schultz autogenic training method: possible reasons of its untapped potential

Abstract

The paper deals with the Schultz autogenic training method, which, despite its effectiveness, safety and availability, is a relatively little used form of prevention and therapy of reactive conditions and psychological disorders. This fact seems paradoxical, especially in today's times, in which psychotherapeutic and psychiatric care is relatively difficult for many people to access.

The untapped potential of autogenic training may be caused by certain little known specifics, which the paper draws attention to, with the aim of recalling the proven method in a new light. The path to the renaissance of the method lies mainly in its new conceptualization as a method more psychagogical than psychotherapeutic, consistently autogenous, fully holistic, and yet scientifically completely relevant.
