Abstract

Psychotherapy as a method of treatment, as a special form of human encounter, as the art of conversation in the space of a supportive relationship, has for over a hundred years been engaged in trying to help people in understanding themselves, their experiences, behavior in relationships and in finding ways to heal mental difficulties or manage life crises. Transgenerational transmission is a topic that appears significantly in psychotherapy practice and is viewed theoretically by different schools and directions.

The chapter describes the contribution of some psychotherapeutic approaches to understanding and treating the impact of transgenerationally transmitted experiences, especially traumatic experiences.
