Abstract

The wood anatomy of Paradiospyroxylon kvacekii gen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on material originating from the usti Formation's volcanic deposits of Ceske stredohori Mts. (Paleogene, Czech Republic). The sample, identified earlier as Manilkaroxylon sp., was critically examined and is interpreted as root wood and proposed as the paratype of Paradiospyroxylon kvacekii.

This paper discusses how wood anatomical variation needs to be considered when making systematic and palaeoecological interpretations.
