Supporting reflectivity in student learning

Publication |
2022

Abstract

Reflection is a tool for learning from experience, which helps to achieve a more profound understanding of various contexts. In the context of the education of health and social workers, reflection represents the connecting link between theory and practice.

However, some authors point out that not all educators know how to use this tool in their work with students. The presented chapter aims to determine the attitude towards reflection taken by selected educators of both professions and what methods they use to support students' reflectivity.

An overview of specific strategies can inspire how this tool can be used in work with students. The basis of the study is a reflexive thematic analysis of ten semi-structured interviews with teachers of bachelor's and master's programs in nursing and social work.
