Publication at Faculty of Education |

Abstract

In Eastern Europe, a number of de-facto states have arisen, which are not internationally recognized, but are functioning and organise the education of the population. On the case of Abkhazia we show why and how comparative education should study de-facto states.

We present statistical data on the Russification of education in Abkhazia and ideological interventions in the curriculum. We describe how the international community can support teachers and students in authoritarian states.
