Medializations of the Subject: On the Quantitative Dimension of Media with Foucault and Kittler

Abstract

Through the philosophical reflections of Michel Foucault, I first proposed a notion of subjectivity as a complicated, embodied web of power relations that are themselves related to institutions. With Kittler, I then explored the institution of digital and technical media as one that can constitute subjectivity in a novel way.

Quantitative things like the amount of data transmission already play a role, which also have an influence on subjectivity.
