The local landscape surrounds a person from early childhood and offers him many stimuli for his personal development, including the formation of his emo-tions and values. It is very important to pay attention to this part of the space in geographical education.
In didactic terminology the term local landscape is not un-ambiguous. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the perception of the concept of local landscape and local region by the pupils themselves and to find out their relationship to their region.
Research was based on a questionnaire survey of pupils (n = 8,653) of lower secondary education in the Czechia and Slovakia. The results show that pupils perceive these terms differently.
They perceive the local landscape more like the local surroundings, on the other hand, the region more like the entire district. Pupils' pride in their region varies significantly in the individual regions of the Czechia and Slovakia and decreases with age.
Pupils are usually most proud of the natural environment in their region.
