The Role of Educational Experts in the Contemporary Discourse of Education

Abstract

In recent years, experts from the field of social sciences have been increasingly featured in the media commenting on educational issues. However, given the conditions under which media content is created, there is a growing critics pointing out that the media are dominated more by pseudo-experts with a media interest rather than scientifically informed experts.

Through the analysis of mass media outputs, it has been investigated whether this criticism is relevant to the field of education in the Czech media. The study examined which experts in the Czech media comment on educational issues and how they discuss them.

The analysis revealed that during the observed period, so-called "education experts" expressed their views on educational issues in nearly half of the cases. These experts cannot be considered true experts but rather pseudo-experts to whom the media has attributed authority and status.

The results of the analysis provide a classification of education experts speaking in the Czech media space, which is the subject of the presented contribution.
