Abstract

The natural science and technically oriented exhibitions are an option to popularize a chemistry class. Although museums have high-quality exhibits that can easily be linked to the curriculum in school education programs, museums are rarely used for educational purposes.

The paper presents the results of the first step of the research. The main goal of this step is to identify opportunities and barriers for a better connection of museum exhibits with the teaching of chemistry and other science subjects at elementary schools and high schools in the Olomouc region.

A qualitative approach method was chosen for data collection, specifically a semi-structured interview with chemistry teachers. The obtained data were converted into text form by verbatim transcription.

These data were then analyzed using the principles of grounded theory. From the results of our semi-structured interview, it was found that teachers perceive reserves in the teaching of future teachers.

The effectiveness of the excursion to the museum corresponds to the preparedness of the teacher. In practice, teachers can take over knowledge from their colleagues and experts, but they themselves need to be proactive.

If the teacher is active, interested in museums and visits museums, teacher can prepare an effective excursion to the museum for his pupils.
