Abstract

It is well known that Guanosine monophosphate (5'-GMP) and its derivates at high concentrations have the unique property to form various complexes which are called G-quadruplexes (G4). They have an essential role in biology but also have significant possible applications both in pharmaceutics and nanotechnology.

These complexes hold together via Hoogsteen base pairing, stacking interaction, cation and hydrophobic interaction, and H-bonds between adjacent mononucleotide phosphate and OH groups.
