Abstract
This contribution assesses the use of large language models for automatic counselling. Drawing on the latest real-world examples, the contribution highlights their limitations across three dimensions: technological, regulatory and social.
In listing the limitations, it is also assessed whether they are likely to be only temporary (given the possible changes in the technology and its wider social context) or are instead inherent to the technology itself. Following this assessment, several policy recommendations are presented.
