Abstract

Measures to combat the COVID-19 have brought new obstacles to the mental health and well-being of athletes. By banning sports events and training, male and female basketball players began to be forced to separate from their teammates.

The measure also contributes to changing the routine behavior of athletes, while their motivation and psychological states can be affected. The article therefore deals with the issue of some psychological aspects of basketball players during the coronavirus pandemic and their possible changes.

The results confirmed significant changes in mental states in connection with the restrictions that were supposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19: 65% of the basketball players interviewed were under more stress during the pandemic than before it. In half (49%) of respondents, we found a reduction in motivation due to measures related to COVID-19.

Women feel a greater need for social support than men (by 18%).
