Abstract
The paper seeks an answer to the question of what the so-called " temporariness" of temporary protection consists of and how it is manifested in the current EU law and the Czech legislation. In this context, the paper deals primarily with theoretical and public international law foundations of temporary protection and the use of this concept in the European area in the 1990s in response to the wartime disintegration of the former Yugoslavia.
The paper then demonstrates the different aspects and manifestations of 'temporariness' of protection by comparing temporary protection status to refugee status (i.e., asylum) and subsidiary protection status in EU law and the Czech legislation.
