Awareness of a Selected Group of University Students about the Substance Kratom

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2023

Abstract

The aim of the research was to obtain an overview of how many students from the addressed group of university students know kratom, what information they have about this substance and what proportion of students have their own experience with the use of this substance. At least 86% of respondents have some information about kratom.

First information about kratom was obtained by respondents mostly from their friends, acquaintances or family members (70%) and subsequently from social networks (65%). The lifetime prevalence of kratom use in a selected group of university students who had at least heard of kratom was 24%.

It was considered an illegal drug by 23% of respondents. Less than a quarter of students interviewed (24%) consider kratom to be a substance safe for indoor use.

As a representative sample of 1283 respondents did not participate in the survey, the results cannot be generalised to all university students in the Czech Republic.
