Abstract
C, was a French painter and graphic artist who worked in Italy. Along with Nicolas Poussin and Gaspard Dughet, he was the most prominent landscape painter of French classicism in the 17th century.
Lorrain created his own concept of the so-called ideal landscape, which was characterized by non-pathetic lyricism and soft luminosity. He spent most of his life in Italy, where he was recognized as an excellent landscape painter and his works sold for high prices.
Lorrain most innovated landscape painting, he created many landscape compositions with the sun. There are a large number of sketches, mostly landscapes, apparently very often painted en plein air, these works were much admired and influenced other artists.
